Zwolle, the Netherlands, 7 October 2026
Regional investment company Wadinko acquires a minority stake in Heatwacht Holding B.V. The Zwolle-based scale-up develops the PowerStove, a thermal energy storage system for companies and institutions with a high heat demand. With this investment, both parties lay the foundation for Heatwacht's next phase of growth in a market where smart energy storage plays an increasingly central role in the energy transition.

Heatwacht
Heatwacht is a Zwolle-based developer of thermal energy storage systems, founded in 2018 by Hans Wolters. In 2025, Heatwacht won its first commercial contract at Nij Smellinghe hospital in Drachten. This project will make the hospital completely gas-free in 2027 and, once completed, will save 285,000 m³ of natural gas per year. Nij Smellinghe receives the Demonstration Energy and Climate Innovation subsidy (DEI) from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy for this project.
“The PowerStove shows that sustainable heat storage is possible on an industrial scale. With Wadinko as a partner, we can now truly accelerate that scale-up.”
PowerStove
Heatwacht has developed the PowerStove: a thermal energy storage system that converts renewable electricity into heat and stores it for long periods. The system offers a concrete, innovative and scalable solution to a fundamental bottleneck in the energy transition: storing renewable energy at times of surplus and making it available at times of demand.
The PowerStove:
- stores renewably generated electricity as heat up to 360 °C;
- can keep heat available for several days and, depending on the application, longer;
- can be connected to existing systems for steam, thermal oil, hot water, hot air and cooling, among others;
- is modularly scalable by combining multiple units;
- is expected to save up to 200,000 m³ of natural gas per year per unit, depending on the usage profile;
- is fire-safe and safe to use, circular and based on proven technology, with a service life of at least 30 years;
- is made from sustainable, circular materials of European origin. Fully recyclable without harmful emissions.
Partnership with Wadinko
Wadinko supports Heatwacht with financing, knowledge and network, with the aim of accelerating the organisation's growth and further strengthening its market position. The investment will be used for working capital, further product development, commercial scale-up and expansion of the organisation.
“The energy transition calls for concrete and scalable solutions. With the PowerStove, Heatwacht has developed a technology that directly responds to the growing need for thermal energy storage. The first commercial introduction at Nij Smellinghe proves that the technology works and that the market is ready for it. With this investment, we create the conditions to roll out this approach more widely.”
